The Mi 10 Ultra is the most sophisticated and powerful Xiaomi phone to date. Xiaomi released the device in August in commemoration of the company’s tenth anniversary with compelling features. At that time, it was the best camera phone, of course, according to DXOMark. Meanwhile, DXOMark has just released the Mi 10 Ultra selfie camera test results, and surprisingly, the device flops big time.

The device could only pull an average of 88 points, which leaves it at 22nd on the leaderboard. It sits between the OnePlus 7 Pro and Huawei P30 Pro from last year, and that’s not good for a device that’s second to Huawei Mate 40 Pro in camera tests. Perhaps, the rear camera makes up for the selfie one.

Meanwhile, Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra is equipped with a single 20MP 1/3.4″ fixed-focus f/2.3-aperture lens with a display flash. The device is capable of shooting 1080p videos @30fps. All that has now been tested over there at DXOMARK, and surprisingly, the result didn’t impress.

According to DXOMark, the Mi 10 Ultra selfie camera shows visible noise in low light. Also, the flash exposure is inconsistent, and due to the limited dynamic range, highlights are clipped in stills and videos. The camera leaves an unnatural blur effect in portraits, and most times, facial details are lost in videos, especially in low light.

There are some positive aspects of the Mi 10 Ultra selfie camera, anyway. The exposure on faces are accurate, and on typical selfie distance (50cm), the images are sharp, which remains desirable at a distance of 120cm. Also, it delivers effective video stabilization, well-controlled noise, and accurate exposure. Unlike in still photos, the camera leaves nice skin tones in bright light and indoor videos but better details in bright-light video clips.

Overall, it’s not an impressive result for a phone of Mi 10 Ultra standard. With an average point of 133 in the camera, the selfie should at least be in the top 10. Well, we will know how the company reacts when they release the Mi 11 and 11 Pro, which are expected to arrive early next year.
