Xiaomi, yesterday in a virtual event, presented the MIUI 12.5 globally. They have also released a list of phones that’ll receive the update starting from April ( Q2 2021). Surprisingly, and ahead of some premium phones, the Redmi 9 will receive the MIUI 12.5 around June (Q2 2021 ending). Of course, the Redmi 9C will get the update, but we don’t know when yet. However, Xiaomi is currently rolling out a new update for Redmi 9 and Redmi 9C, which bumps the security patch level to January 2021.
The Redmi 9 units currently receiving a new update are the ones sold in India. They are getting a MIUI 12.0.7.0 QCTINXM in a 160MB package. However, only a few selected users will receive the update, pending when the beta preview is completed. After that, and if successful, the public will start getting the update.
The new Redmi 9C update is released in multiple regions. It brings the January 2021 security patch build to improve system security and optimize the performance. The update also fixed some minor bugs and will arrive via OTA in the coming days. In Russia, the update has a version number – MIUI QCSRUXM – while in Turkey, it will arrive as MIUI 12.0.5.0 QCRTRXM. Those in Indonesia are also receiving the same update, but with a different version number – MIUI 12.0.6.0 QCRIDXM.
