It has been a couple of weeks since Xiaomi started deploying the Android 12-based MIUI 13 update, and not until recently did we hear about the update bricking phones. Supposedly, the update has bricked the Mi 11 Ultra, and going by reports, the device died after being upgraded from the updater app.

Xiaomi, for years, has come under fire because of the buggy MIUI updates. The company promised to look into its Android skin stability, which is possibly why the current iteration of MIUI didn’t present many virtual changes. That seems like it until recently when users started reporting a bricked phone after upgrading to MIUI 13. Supposedly, it’s the Mi 11 Ultra users that have their device ‘bricked’ after installing the Android 12-based MIUI 13 upgrade, although Xiaomiui believes otherwise.

As per the report, the current iteration of MIUI didn’t just brick the Mi 11 Ultra, it also left the Xiaomi Mi 11, Mi 11 Lite 5G, and perhaps other Mi 11 series phones dead. A quick look at the MIUI 13 bug tracker shows no record of the issue, meaning the company is yet to acknowledge it. Perhaps, those facing the issue are yet to report, or the company is still analyzing the problem to find the cause. Hopefully, we get to know what happened and a solution suggested for those with bricked phones.

Meanwhile, we understand these builds bricking these phones might be a Mi Pilots release, especially for the Mi 11 Ultra. If that’s the case, users have to take responsibility as the current situation is what everyone signs up for before joining the Mi Pilots. Nevertheless, the company shouldn’t be sending out buggy updates, and we hope, in the next coming days, that they would make a statement, perhaps, a way to restore the dead phones.
