Xiaomi users are experiencing something different with the installation of Android 15. The Chinese company has been rolling out the update for some time now. It made some tweaks that have been confusing many users. Many Xiaomi phones are unable to turn off after pressing the power button, but that’s not a bug.

Google is replacing its Assistant with Gemini. It seems all devices running Android, at least globally, will adopt the new assistant. One of the requirements includes modifying the power button to initiate the Gemini feature. Like Pixel and Samsung phones, pressing the power button does not turn off the device, but a combination of buttons.

Details of Xiaomi phones unable to turn off

Pixel phones require pressing the power and volume up button to trigger the power off button or using the control panel. Xiaomi users will now turn off their phones using this method. However, you can configure your device differently.

To turn off the device using the power button, head to Settings>>Additional settings>>Gesture shortcut, select “Press and hold the power button for 0.5s” or “Press and hold the for 0.3s.”

The new change is exclusive to all Xiaomi phones running Android 15. However, those on Chinese ROM will have a different Assistant, Xiao AI. If you are running Android 14, you do not need to take any action as your device is not affected.
