Google and Samsung have been agreeing on a few things lately. Recently, the former had to adopt Quick Share on Galaxy phones for Pixel devices. Perhaps Samsung is doing the same as they confirmed Google Messages will become their default messaging app.
Samsung and Google have been pushing Apple to support RCS for years now. And with the help of the European Union, iOS 18 will include support for RCS for a better messaging experience between Android and iPhone users. It makes sense that Android adopts a single messaging app for smooth operation.
Interestingly, Samsung has been shipping its Galaxy phones with Google Messages as the default messaging app. Although Samsung messages also come pre-installed with these phones, it wasn’t the default messaging option, but that was only in some regions.
With the Galaxy Z Flip 6 and Fold 6, Samsung has officially confirmed it will stop shipping its phones with Samsung messages. Both phones run One UI 6.1.1 outside the box and have Google Messages as their default messaging app.
Meanwhile, we understand that Samsung still ships its phone with the Samsung Message in Canada and Europe. It will be interesting to see if the upcoming One UI 6.1.1 update will force Google Messages to be the default messaging app for supported devices.
