Google Pixel 7 fingerprint sensor issues after Android 14 QPR2 Beta 2

Google had some fingerprint sensor issues with Pixel 6 and Pixel 7, but they seem to resolve all those issues with Pixel 8. However, with the release of the Android 14 QPR2 Beta 2 update, the Pixel 7 fingerprint sensor has stopped working for some people.

Google Pixel 7 fingerprint sensor issues

The latest Android 14 QPR2 Beta 2 update arrived a few days ago with bug fixes and improvements. After installing the update, some Pixel 7 users can not use their fingerprint sensor to unlock their devices. Since the sensor worked fine until after the recent update, the fingerprint sensor issue is definitely a software problem.

Interestingly, Google has acknowledged the problem while offering a workaround. That involves recalibrating the sensor using the UDFPS calibration tool. If you wish to try that, there is a step-by-step guide from iFixit here, and two manual reboots are required for the sensor to start working again.

Meanwhile, for those that can not do the calibration, Google is already working on a fix; “engineering team is currently prioritizing a resolution for the affected devices.” We expect the Android 14 QPR2 Beta 2.1 to arrive with a fix and soon. We do not recommend leaving the beta program to resolve the issue, as you lose all your data.
