The April security patch has already arrived for a few Google Pixel users who were hoping the update would fix the slow fingerprint bug that has persisted for some time now. Perhaps, many would have been disappointed seeing April’s security patch changelog as it didn’t mention a fix for the slow fingerprint unlock bug. However, many were quick to install the update hoping it would at least improve the fingerprint unlock time, but it seems the update has done nothing about the frustrating bug.

slow fingerprint unlock bug.

Many Google Pixel phone users, including older pixels, have complained of slow a fingerprint for weeks. With the April security patch update, they hope Google addresses the issue, but they perhaps keep ignoring it. Well, maybe the company is still working on a fix and would probably start rolling it out when it’s ready, which should be the only explanation for why they haven’t fixed the issue yet.

Supposedly, the slow fingerprint unlock bug surfaced after the March security update, and it seems to affect the Google Pixel 4a, Pixel 4a 5G, and Pixel 5a. Users say they experience a few seconds of delay unlocking their phones when the screen is off, but when using the fingerprint to unlock apps didn’t experience any delays. It happens that when the lock/unlock sound is enabled, the sound comes on a few times in a short burst when the screen is off. However, that doesn’t happen when the display is awake, which somehow says a few things about the delay when unlocking with the screen off.

Apparently, not everyone is facing this issue, as some people seem to have their devices working just fine. And maybe that’s the reason why Google hasn’t said anything about it, but with more people complaining about the slow fingerprint bug, the company will look at it. Nevertheless, you can check for the quick workaround below and see if that works for you.

Supposedly, turning on the Always-on display fixed the issue for some users of Google Pixel 4a. But that means you have to sacrifice battery life for a responsive fingerprint scanner. And since the April patch didn’t address the issue, you might be forced to have the Always-on display enabled pending when Google releases a fix.
